Nobody expects them to be waiting hand and foot. The developers and community moderators are present a reasonable amount of time, but not 24/7. They have set up the most perfectly balanced Discord server with everything a consumer/gamer could need - organized into specific channels within the server. One shining example of a gaming Discord server done to perfection is the one for Out Of The Park Developments (creators of the Out Of The Park baseball and Franchise Hockey Manager games). Coming from an IRC background only made it easier for me to set up on Discord. I have some experience setting up and managing Discord servers because I've done two of them. You can literally customize it to your liking. You can organize and store all the most important stuff about your company, game, etc. You will connect with a lot more people and gain exposure. This is because Discord was specifically designed to connect gamers. I know IRC is still good in modern times but it doesn't compare as favorably now to Discord. I also used IRC a ton in the 90s and 00s. I also use Slack, Telegram, Skype, and Gitter. I don't work for Discord, but I use it a lot. Any changes they've made haven't hindered usability at all. Also, I'm not quite sure what you mean about constant changes because Discord has remained streamlined and easy for the user since the jump. It's not very hard to get used to and it's a very powerful program. I'm not sure what's "atrocious" about Discord. I've seen firsthand how helpful it has been for several different indie games. So that's another point.ĭiscord is actually a really good platform. I also can't integrate Discord into the game and still sell it on Steam. The greeter bot will let you know.) So barrier of entry is completely moot. It's also quite easier to get started in, you just hit "Login" and your chatting right there with me. Our integrated IRC chat is lovely Web 3.0 style that Discord users like. Although, as I mentioned, I won't be idling there and because of that, it probably wouldn't be worth the effort of implementing an Discord-IRC bridge for me to even pop-in occasionally via IRC. As I said before, you're more than welcome to create an official-unofficial Discord. Welp, this is a game made for freaks, by a freak. IRC is no longer used by casual people, only by some freaks. It's as easy as just clicking the link I gave above, or clicking "Help", "Chat" in the 64-bit build of the game.Īlso Discord do not provide your IP Address to the server people. If you want to talk to me in a chat setting, you're more than welcome to send me a Steam Chat (which I can't avoid on this platform) or hop onto IRC. I find "Web Apps" like Discord atrocious. I have been on the internet for 25 years. You wouldn't be able to talk to a developer on Discord. Have you tried our IRC channel? The integrated version in the game is a hell of a lot simpler than Discord.Īlso if they want to talk to developer is easier there more than IRC. Not sure what's difficult about clicking "Help" then "Chat" inside the game. Names removed though.įor people is much easier to use Discord for getting help instead of IRC. I'll go ahead and leave this up, since I already replied.
